I just found this essay today or should I say it found me. Life has been so busy lately and I so needed this time for myself. Up early, sitting on my front porch listening to birdsong and reading and writing.
Happy belated birthday! I know your Mother was missing from your day, but also so much a part of you. She is in your heart, just as you are your girls’ hearts.
I too am a lover of “small happinesses” or should I say “sweet little moments ❤️” and absolutely believe that “we get to have this day”. To quote Kate Bowler- “life is so beautiful, life is so hard”.
I simply wanted to say that I think Kokoro is one of the most beautiful, useful and memorable books I have read in a long, long time. I found myself saying ‘yes, this’ to something on almost every page. I am on the verge of buying a second copy so I can scribble, underline, and asterisk all the parts I love in my current copy (or maybe what I need is the kindle version) because I want to remember. In fact having finished it I am starting it again. Some ideas were new to me, and many were things I knew but have forgotten or some how mislaid along the way. So to remember them is wonderful and liberating and…I could go on. I could even post a review on Amazon for the first time ever! For now, a deep bow to you Beth for this precious gift. 🙏🙇🏻♀️
Thank You for sharing your thoughts. This is a beautiful post. I lost my Sister in March and this last few days I have felt suddenly quite low and saddened. This is a beautiful reminder to celebrate each day that I get to wake up. It's truly a blessing. My joy is receiving my beautiful copy of The Joy Bringer's by Karin Celestine. It's all about small joys and beauties and has made me feel so happy and joyful 😊.
This made think a lot reading your post this morning, as I walked back to my car earlier today looking at the beautiful sky and all the nature around me I thought of my brother, who died in April last year, and reminded myself that every small thing, every small moment in my day was one that I got to experience and feel and what a blessing it really was. Your words completely uphold my mood this morning and I’m so glad I came across them - thank you.
Happy Belated Birthday Beth! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for reminding us to embrace each day with gratitude and enthusiasm. Your perspective on the duality of time, between "doing-time" and "being-time," highlights the power of choice in how we approach each day. It reminded me every morning is a gift, an opportunity to savor the sweetness of life and to appreciate the simple joys that surround us.
Beautiful, how moving and will remember my small happiness especially more often. Thank you. 💜
A moving, beautiful read 💜 Thank you Beth. I really want to visit Stardust!

Joy and sorrow 🙁😊
And of course what I should also have said is I hope you enjoyed your birthday! 🎉

Thank you.
Morning sun
Rakes the Eastern trees
Birds fly from limbs
Rays beat on my windows
Turn my eyelids red
Stunned by sun
I stumble to kitchen
Cafe and something
For AM routine.
I live, and yes
We all
Get this day.

Absolutely beautiful words which helped remind me of the magic in the little things after a rough day. Thank you for this gift!
Wrote a song a while back called “Mono No Aware” thought you might like it because it’s a Japanese phrase https://open.spotify.com/track/0Gs3f7TLadVKaiVr5wEuSj?si=DzTy3quOTJmbO0eQGtF77g
Wow. This is it. 🙏🫶🌸
